To use the file wizard, go to System Setup, put in the site code and select Devices.  Click on New and at the prompt to use the file wizard, select Yes.

Select HL7-WIZARD and click on OK.

Under the Main tab, you will need to configure the below:

1.  DEVICE CODE:  Define a unique code for the device, i.e., HL7_HIM.

2.  DEVICE DESCRIPTION:  Define a description for the device, i.e., HL7 REPORTS TO HIM

3.  OUTPUT LOCATION:  If the output location is Host, the HL7 messages will distribute to your local machine.  This is convenient for testing/troubleshooting HL7 messages.  Host distribution does not use MTDISTRIB.  If this device is being used to distribute to your customer's EHR, the output location needs to be Remote.  If the output location is Client, the HL7 messages will distribute to the host ChartNet server.  This is convenient for testing/troubleshooting HL7 messages that need to distribute using MTDISTRIB.

4.  ALLOW WEB PORTAL USERS TO DISTRIBUTE TO THIS DEVICE:  Selecting this option will allow web portal users to select this device for distribution.

5.  THIS DEVICE WILL CHANGE THE REPORT'S STATUS TO "DELIVERED":  If the output is Remote, you would normally select this option.

NOTE:  Under the Main tab, the Wizard will populate the Device Type

Under the Interface Tab:

1.  MAXIMUM LINE WIDTH (CHARACTERS):  Some EHR's require a specific line width for esthetic purposes.

2.  LEFT MARGIN (CHARACTERS):  If the lines on the HL7 message need to be indented, enter the number of characters to indent. NOTE:  There are 10 characters in one inch.

3.  INCLUDE FORM'S PAGE HEADERS:  Selecting this option will include the configured form header on the HL7 message.

4.  INCLUDE FORM'S PAGE FOOTERS:  Selecting this option will include the configured form footer on the HL7 message.

NOTE:  Under the Interface tab, the Wizard will populate the Interface Type, Output Path, File Name Format and Extension.  These can be changed as needed.

Under the Interface Mapping Tab:

Interface mapping is configured using interface specifications from the receiving application your customer uses.  For details on interface mapping, please refer to the HL7 Outbound Reports chapter, Mapping Table Syntax.
