When transcribing or editing, it is important to limit the use of the mouse. Limiting the mouse can reduce your risk of carpal tunnel and other related conditions, as well as increase your efficiency and productive in both the transcription and editing environments.

Some Keyboard Shortcuts described in the following sections are inherent to Microsoft, including most of the Editing and Navigation shortcuts. Use these shortcuts in all Microsoft programs, including your email, Microsoft Word, and other programs.

Other shortcuts are inherent to ChartNet or the M*Modal Editor. There is a Keyboard Shortcut for nearly every function available in both editors. Many of the shortcuts overlap between the editors, while both editors have shortcuts specific to them.
