File Drop Interface

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

A file drop interface will 'drop' a document or HL7 message into a specified folder, and generally imports into an EHR from there.  The EHR uses either the naming convention for the document or a specific header to post the document correctly.  This is used when you are not using a socket to socket connection and MTREMDIST is only configured to save a file in a specified folder.

For a file drop interface, a remote server needs to be configured on your customer's network with the Service Controller installed and either MTREMDIST application or CNREMDIST (when installed as a service).  It is recommended to install CNREMDIST, as this will run as a Windows service.

To set up a flat file drop interface, under the Main tab:

1.  DEVICE CODE:  Define a code for the device, i.e., EHR_INTERFACE.  This will be a unique code for that site.

2.  DEVICE DESCRIPTION:  Define a description for the device, i.e., EHR FILE DROP

3.  DEVICE TYPE:  Select Interface for the device type.

4.  OUTPUT LOCATION:  The output location is Remote

5.  If Web Portal users can distribute using this device, select 'Allow Web Portal Users to Distribute to this Device.'

6.  Select 'This Device will Change the Report Status to Delivered.'

Under the Interface Tab:

1.  Select the appropriate Interface Type - these are generally RTFs or Word documents.  Please refer to Interface Types for descriptions of all interface types.

2.  Define the Output Path.  This is the path to the location on the remote server where the document will file.

3.  Define the File Name Format.  If the file name is being used for the document to file, use Expression for the file name format and define the file name under the Misc tab, Filename Expression.

4.  If the interface type is RTF, the Extension should be rtf.  If it is Word, the extension should be doc. (no . 'period' before the extension)

5.  If the form's headers and/or footers should be on the final document, select Include Form's Page Headers and/or Include Form's Page Footers.

6.  Include Addendums is only used in legacy versions and included here for backwards compatibility.

7.  If there are images and the file type is RTF, select Embed Images in RTF Files.
