Installing Advantage Database |

The following describes the steps to install Advantage Database, the Advantage Data Architect, and the Advantage ODBC drivers. The Advantage Database and Data Architect need to be installed on the Database Server. The Advantage ODBC Drivers must be installed on any Application Server that will host the ChartNet Request Server.
Download the Required Files
1.On the Database Server, create folder "C:\DOWNLOAD"
2.Under the C:\DOWNLOAD folder, create a "\ADVANTAGE DATABASE' folder
3.Go to http://devzone.advantagedatabase.com
4.Click on "Product Download" in the left panel
5.Click on version "9.1"
6.Select "Advantage Database Server"
7.Select the Platform, Windows 32-bit or Windows 64-bit
8.Click "Download" button
9.Save to the "c:\download\Advantage Database" folder
10.Do the same for the "Advantage Data Architect"
11.Do the same for the "Advantage ODBC Driver"
12.The download folder should now contain three files: adswin_x86_32.exe, arc32.exe, and adsodbc.exe
Install Advantage Database Server
1.Install Advantage Database Server by running the adswin_x86_32.exe file
2.You will be required to enter the Serial Number and VAL code
3.After it is installed, you will need to make a few configuration changes
a.Go to "Start" then "Programs", then "Advantage Database Server 9.0"
b.Select "Advantage Configuration Utility"
c.Click on "Configuration Utility" tab
d.Click on "Communications" tab
e.For LAN Port, enter: 12905
f.For Internet Port, if the Database Server is a different machine then the Application Server, enter 443. If the Database Server and the Application Server are the same machine, enter 12906.
g.Click on the "Misc Settings" tab
h.Set the "Number of Worker Threads" to 64
i.Check the box: "Suppress Message Boxes"
j.Check the box: "Non-exclusive Proprietary Locking"
k.Click "Apply"
4.You will be prompted to restart Advantage Database
Install Advantage Data Architect
1.On the Database Server, run the "arc32.exe" program in the download folder
2.Follow the prompts
3.Later, you will be required to use the Data Architect to create a Data Dictionary for ChartNet. See the topic "Creating the Data Dictionary".
Windows 2008 Notes
Edit the Windows Firewall and add two ports, one for the LAN traffic (e.g. 12905) and another for the Internet traffic (e.g. 443). Failure to do this may result in a "6602 Client comm layer timed out waiting for receive of packet from Advantage Database" error.
