REMOTE PRINTER DEVICE
For a remote printer, you will need the following information:
Make and model of the printer and appropriate drivers
IP address for the printer
For automatic printing, a remote server needs to be configured on your customer's network with the Service Controller installed and either MTREMDIST application or CNREMDIST (when installed as a service). It is recommended to install CNREMDIST, as this will run as a Windows service. The printer needs to be added to the remote server as a TCP/IP Port, using the printer's IP address. The print drivers will also need to be installed. NOTE: The printer and drivers will need to be added to the host ChartNet server if the printer make/model is not already configured.
To set up a printer, under the Main tab
1. DEVICE CODE: Define a code for the device, i.e., HIM_PRINTER. This will be a unique code for that site.
2. DEVICE DESCRIPTION: Define a description for the device, i.e., CHARTNET HOSPITAL HIM PRINTER
3. DEVICE TYPE: Select Printer for the device type.
4. OUTPUT LOCATION: The output location is Remote
5. Select 'This Device will Change the Report Status to Delivered.'
Under the Printer tab:
1. Select the Windows Printer Name. The drop down list displays all printers installed on the host ChartNet server. The remote server at the site must have a printer defined with the same name, unless an override printer name is configured. Override printer names can be convenient when setting up a remote printer. For example, the printer name in medical records is CANONIR1018. When adding a printer to the remote server, you can rename it to MEDREC and use the exact same name in the Override Printer Name field.
2. The Page One and Page Two Paper Source values will change depending on the type of printer. EXAMPLE: The printer on site has letterhead in Tray 1 and plain paper in tray two. The Page 1 Paper Source can be set to Tray 1, and the Page 2 Paper Source can be set to Tray 2.
3. If the site will be printing envelopes, enter the form code for them. Please refer to Envelopes for detailed instructions on how to configure envelope printing.
4. If carbon copies should print right after the original report, select the option to Print CC Copies.
The device created needs to be added to the Form's distribution.
